Janell's Journey
At the age of 16 Janell knew she wanted
to be an artist. She was fascinated with the creative process
of photography and painting. She loved spending
time painting, drawing and creating
photographs in a traditional black and white darkroom. During
her senior year of college she had her first gallery show of
fine art murals and portraiture. Janell received
her Bachelors degree in Art from Southern Oregon University where
she studied fine art photography, painting, and design.
The pursuit of her creative career led
her to the Los Angeles
area. Soon after, she
met her husband Mike and moved to
Pasadena. In 1991 she started her own
fine art photography business and opened a retail location in
Pasadena in the spring
of 2001. In May of
2004, she had a charming studio built in the garden of her
home. This location has
allowed Janell to continue to create her unique art in an
inspirational and beautiful garden setting.
Janell combines her art education, 20 years of
photography and fine art experience and several years in the
advertising industry to create beautiful art that her
clients treasure... for a lifetime.
I have always believed that a portrait is a work of
fine art that is as personal as one's thoughts and feelings.
Great art captures a moment in time and renders it timeless
rather than simply being "eye catching." Throughout my
career as a photographer and artist, I have developed a style
of creating art that embraces this philosophy.
I believe that the art of portraiture is a
collaborative effort -- a collaboration between my artistic
interpretation and you, my subject.
Gaining an understanding and an appreciation for who you are
and translating that into a portrait is what gives my artwork a
